Medieval Military Arts Academy
Hey everyone!
Tonight in class we will be resuming our messer lessons, potentially including a little bit of grappling.
As some of us will know, the barn hunt group that we have been renting from will be closing their building, so we are still looking for a new practice location. If you know of anywhere or anyone that may be willing to rent to us, let me know!
Tying in with this, I am aiming for us to finish our messer curriculum on the last day in the current location, November 20th. (Thanksgiving we will not be meeting). We will be starting up our new, future location with a possible footwork interstitial lead by Jay, then going into Sword and Buckler afterwards.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out here tonight!
Hey everyone, couple of small updates for us! First one is regarding the choppening clean up date, 10/18/2025.
Secondly, I have a friend who works with a local magazine and is willing to get us a little bit of advertising in there, so we're going to be taking some additional donations to make sure that we can give them some compensation for the publicity.
Hey everyone! Tonights class we will be going through some more messer, this time going through actions from the Shielhau, and probably some extras as well.
More importantly - We are having a late announcement for this, but - we will be hosting another Choppening this year! The date is currently set for Friday, October 24th, however we will be discussing it in person to make sure that the date works for as many people as possible, so its not set in stone.
Its been a few years since we've had a Choppening, so for anyone who doesn't know, we all gather in my back yard to have a little bit of dumb fun cutting things with sharps! Popular targets include plastic bottles, pumpkins, or any produce that looks like it could do with a good chopping!
Todays class we will be starting our curriculum on the Messer!
For anyone who does not know what the messer is, it's a little German, one-handed, choppy sword that is an irresponsible amount of fun.
In contrast, to our normal methodology we will be looking at several smaller sources for our learning this time around. Instead of one book for several months, we are actually going to be blowing through two whole sources in less than an hour, with some of a third being thrown in.
Come on out and have some choppy fun with us tonight!
Hey everyone, couple of quick announcements for today!
Last night we finished up our dagger interstitial, and will be officially moving over to our Messer classes! If you are interested in 15th Century one handed cut and thrust business, come join us next Thursday and chop us up!
Additionally, today and for the rest of this week is the Donnybrook 2025, everyone give some good cheering for Jay Castillo in his singlestick and smallsword fights on Saturday!
Tonights class is a brief return to some Dagger plays, before we begin our next Messer curriculum
The plays will be from a complilation of Hans Talhoffer and Peter Falkner, starting from the unarmed against dagger plays.
If you haven't done dagger with us, come on out and start stabbing - its a tremendous amount of fun!
Tonight in class, were gonna be working through some of the actions of the Durchlaufen, and some Ringen am Schwert.
Mostly, ya'll are gonna be throwing me to the ground today!
Courtesy of Ethan Moore, we also have another mat to add in, so you should have a bit more space to huck me wherever you see fit.
I'll see everyone then!
Hey everyone, a few announcements before class!
We are changing around how we accept payments - for right now we are still taking PayPal, but we've changed the email address for it, please make any future payments to contact@mmaahema.com, not to the old Gmail.
We've made this change because i've finally attempted to get us a new card reader (coming in next week), and this required another verification step through Paypal, which was set up by Evan, who I am not - so a new paypal account.
We have added the new changes in our Website; http://www.mmaahema.com/ as well as adding in a new subscription service, so that I dont have to ask for payments every month. not sure how the subscriptions work, so they may be removed if no one likes them.
Hey, a last minute update - I did not realize that today was our scheduled once a month class! For some reason, I thought that was next week. Due to some scheduling conflicts, I will be canceling this class.
Our Next Monthly class is going to be on June 15th - That one also has a scheduling conflict for me, so I am asking for anyone who wants an opportunity to lead a class to reach out to me, and we can set that up for you.
Class is still on for today!
According to Lee, the Roof has been repaired and we should be able to keep dry feet in the building again!
However, there is a chance that the buildings power may still be out - in that case we will meet at the park across the street! I will write a note on the door if that is the case.
This is the last class before Swordstrong, so if you want to prepare for the tournament, or you need to borrow equipment, this is a good day to be out!
Hey everyone, due to some unfortunate circumstances, we will not be able to practice in our normal location this week - Too much rain for the roof to handle!
So instead we will be meeting across the street, at Fassnight Park. Parking is just off of Catalpa, behind the Pizza Hut.
We will be reviewing some of the actions from the Krumphau, and potentially some counters for it.
Since this is outside, bring water!
We've added a new feature to the website - the ability to upload photos!
There aren't a lot of pictures in there yet, so if you have any pictures that you like, feel free to look at the new "Gallery" tab and upload any pictures you've got from class!
No ability to add videos yet, the Storage on the server is kinda limited, and I'm not sure how fast it will fill up.
Hey Everyone,
A quick reminder for everyone that tomorrow, Sunday March 9th, is our first return to Sunday classes!
We will be covering some introductory Longsword in this class and alongside it, we will be returning to longsword in our normal Thursday classes as well!
Remember the Sunday classes are always free, no dues are ever owed for these classes.

Hey everyone! I've got two updates for us today!
The first one - This next Sunday (The 9th) is our first return to our Sunday classes! These classes are always free for everyone to join. I would love to be able to see as many people out there as we can to try and drum up some more attention from new people!
The second update – We have a Website now - MMAAhema.com
This has been a project that I’ve been working on for a few weeks now (though for someone who knows what they’re doing, it could have taken far less), it is going to be a place for us to be able to post the updates that we normally share to our Facebook page, but now separate from the rest of the social media platform.
The website also has a calendar, where we can look at all of our classes coming up, and any other events that I get added to it.
If you can think of anything that we need to add to the website to make it more functional/less ugly, let me know, and I’ll see if I know how to fix it!
Hey everyone, welcome to the first iteration of our website. It is here that we should be able to host any and all updates for everyone.
Please take note, I am not a web designer, and I only know what I’m doing about 10% of the time on all the various programs that got me here.
If you are a web designer, please feel free to give me advice, I’ll take what I can get!
